    MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and Obesity

Research shows there may be a link to MSG and the massive obesity epidemic.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number of obese and overweight Americans is dangerously on the rise. Today, approximately 16% of children ages 6 to 19 fall into that category, as do a whopping 65% of adults.

Being overweight increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice.
Since no strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, the scientists have to create them. Injecting them with MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas causing them to become lethargic and morbidly obese.

Check your cupbords and fridge. MSG is in Campbell's soups, Hostess products, Doritos, Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones and so on. Many items that don't have MSG on the label have something called Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who catch on. We are blindly feeding this to our children!

Many restaurant employees, including the managers, will swear they don't use MSG but ask for the ingredient list and you WILL see MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein everywhere. Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant, even the sit down ones like TGIF, Chilis', Applebees and Denny's use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken is one of the very WORST offenders: MSG is in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. Their secret spice is MSG! (SEE MORGAN SPURLOCK'S DOCUMENTARY "SUPER SIZE ME, WHERE HE ATE AT MCDONALD'S FOR A MONTH.) That was just scary to see what damage the foods were doing to his body...not even his doctors expected it to be so bad!

A book on the food additive industry called The Slow Poisoning of America, (, says MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

The food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG at: explains that they add it to food to make people eat more. It is good for elderly people who need to eat more.

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added. And we wonder why the nation is overweight?

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the prepackaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

MSG, like Aspartame, is an excitotoxin.

Both the medical research community and food "manufaturers" have known MSG's side effects for decades! There is a definite link from MSG to Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Migraines and headaches, Autism, ADHD and even Alzheimer's.

The price of eating out in restaurants is more expensive than the bill I'm handed when we finish. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount.

But see if that is true--Go to the National Library of Medicine, at Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 122medical studies that appear.

Here are more names it hides under.

Some people say you should strive to stay away from foods that have MSG or monosodium glutamate on their labels. They go on to say You should also strive to stay away from foods that contain the following ingredients which are definite sources of MSG:

    autolyzed yeast
    sodium caseinate
    calcium caseinate
gelatin (including all gelatin-covered nutritional supplements)
    hydrolyzed protein
    textured protein
    yeast extract
    citric acid
Also, please be aware that the following ingredients usually contain MSG:

    any mixes labeled as "flavouring"
    natural flavours
soy protein isolate, concentrate, or extract
    protein powders like whey powder

Here are LOTS of healthy foods we can eat instead

I like what Dr. Tedd said "Living in a land of plenty has its pluses: We're able to provide sustenance for large numbers of people in a way our forefathers couldn't. The downside? We're surrounded by food we don't have to physically work for. Way back then, people had to hunt for their food or grow it, then clean, process and cook it before consuming it."

If I am watching a movie or playing video games I can go in the kitchen often and get more cookies or chips and pop.

In Dr. Tedd's house they stock an abundfance of low-fat snacks such as cheese sticks, peanut butter, apples, grapes. They eat snacks or cookies when they go out on weekends.

BE SURE TO CHECK THIS OUT! IT has lots of good food so you won't feel deprived!
