Unhappy Giant PA new coupon policy

Sigh.... Knew this was coming. It is a sad day in PA. Today it is became officially enforced that Giant will only double one coupon per item. Goodbye bulk orders and one trip shopping convenience. ( I expected this from Superfresh or Genuardis first rather than the formerly awesome Giant.) The registers are now set for this and it's no longer left to cashier discretion.

In your opinion and experience, what's the best way to deal with this? Multiple trips? Separate orders? I can't even imagine what this will do to the triple coupon orders... a lot more work on my part.

Seperate orders. I have done three or four orders in one trip through line. Guess the stores don't care if you waste their time. Do try and pick a time that won't hold up other customers but don't forget you are a customer too.

Geez, I would be just grateful if we had double coupons here. I read all about this doubling and trippling stuff from all of you and have never even seen this in my life. All my stores take only the face value of the coupons. So at least you have this available. I know it's hard to have something and then it's taken away.

Giant's & coupons....bummer

We had the misfortune of shopping there recently and came across a very rude cashier! When I was told of the policy, I asked her to hold the extra items at the register and I would go out and come back through and buy them. She INSISTED on calling a boy over the loudspeaker and announcing to the entire store that he needed to come and get these itmes and put them away because a "COUPON PERSON" was trying to get away with something and she "CAUGHT" it! I was mortified! I went out to the car to put my groceries away and my daughter went back to buy more of the items we had coupons for. I didn't care if it took 10 trips, it's worth it! Well, anyway she came out to the car and told me that she went through the self-checkout and the register took all the coupons! Might be worth a try......
Anyway, I won't be shopping at Giant anymore after that cashier!

hot pink -- OMG that sounds like the worst I've heard! I can't imagine... but I know that I would do like you and be more resolved than ever...

This weekend I went to another Giant and didn't have the same problem that I originally posted... Glad to hear it didn't hit all of them. It's just strange b/c I noticed that once one Giant has their registers set for something that they all are the same.

Wow, sorry that is happening to you all.

I live in PA and shop at Giant and they still double all of my coupons. But even if they stop, I will miss it, but I can understand. They are only getting reimbursed for the face value of the coupon, anyways. I love my Giant!

That is very true... I often wonder how they can pay the difference. Their prices are the lowest of Genuardis, Acme, Superfresh, Weis and Redners, no doubt.

It is also like you said, Mycyd, being grateful that it is even offered at all. Another life lesson I learned through couponing!

I know! I always wondered how they could afford to do it, too!! Weis is my only other option without having to drive too far and I'm not crazy about them AT ALL. They are not really that nice of a store, their meat selection is terrible, and they double coupons, but only to equal $1.00 off. My Giant will double my ¢.75 to make it $1.50 off, but my Weis will only take off another ¢.25 to make it $1.00 off. (And yes, I am greatful for even that!) But I do really love my Giant.
