grrr...my trip to Harris Teeter
Last night I went to Harris Teeter. I had a rain check for BOGO Promise Land milk. Also had $1/1 coupons. So, I picked up my 4 containers and took out 4 coupons (as well as did some other needed food shopping). I get to the counter and I hand the young man the 4 containers of milk with the rain check. He scans one in at full price, the next he scans in at $0. Repeats with next 2. He scans in the rest of my groceries and I hand him all my coupons but the Promise Land ones. He scans in my coupons then I hand him the Promise Land ones and say, "2 of these may beep b/c the price you rang in was $0". 3 scan fine, last one beeps. He then looks at me and says, "Well, you can't use all 4. You can't use a coupon on a free item." I tell him I have always used a coupon on a free item. He pages for the head teller (not the mgr). She comes over and he explains the situation, telling her the computer already took 3 of the coupons. Well, she gets in my face and tells me this is wrong. Store policy = coupon can't exceed value of merchandise. To which I say, "Well, I always buy your 99 cent travel size J&J shampoo using $1/1 coupon. No Harris Teeter in town has ever denied that coupon." She says, "Ma'am, that's only a penny we are losing. Not a whole dollar. There is a difference." I tell her, "Well, you can't pick and choose WHICH coupons and merchandise fit your policy. That isn't fair to the customer." So she stomps off to the get the manager. Manager pleasantly comes over and explains that no coupon can exceed product value and no HT should be accepting my J&J coupon. I thank her for her time and pay my bill and leave. I don't go home -- I drive 1/2 mile down road to a different HT (the first one was out of JuicyJuice and my coupons expired today, so was planning to go there anyways). I immediatly go to customer service and ask, "When you have a BOGO sale, can I use 2 coupons on that purchase?" The lady (who is the head teller at this store) says, "Of course. That is HT's policy. The BOGO deal has nothing to do with the coupons. That is an in-company sale."
Guess where I will be going to use my other BOGO rainchecks?
I think I am going to call corporate tomorrow -- want to know what corporate says about the policy.
Sorry... really rambling and venting... the whole incident sort of irritated me -- esp after hearing a completely different story at the 2nd HT.
