I hate the thought of spending 50 bucks on something like this, but I figure it doesn't take me long to ruin 50 bucks worth of clothes. So it's kind of an investment.
New issue of Consumer Reports says it's not perfect, but it's worth the 50 bucks. From them, that's high praise, indeed!

I saw a segment on the Today show about this product, taped at the Housewares Show.... and it was receiving positive reviews then, too. I'm absolutely getting one based on everything I've heard (the CR review hooked me) -- I just figured I'd either wait for it to go on sale or wait until I found a rebate or coupon. So thanks, OP!
