Hi!
I'm fairly new to this coupon thing--I love the idea but am struggling with making it work in a rural area. I'm hours away from what would be considered a larger city, but am considering making a monthly trip to that city to use my coupons if it would be worth my time/gas money. First question--how do you find out if a store doubles coupons and/or convince them to do so? Anyone heard of Hy-Vee and had any luck there? Second question--does anyone live in/near Des Moines and get great deals there? This is the city I'm considering travelling to. I live in extreme northern Missouri. Thanks so much for any information you can offer! I'm needing to trim the grocery budget. Oh, and fwiw I'm used to shopping at Aldi almost exclusively, as without coupons those are by far the best deals I can find. Thanks! Tabby |

Tabby - Question for you: How do you like Aldi? One is about to open in my town this week. Does Aldi take coupons? I am planning to check out the store -- but you are the first person to ever mention shopping there.

aldi's
I have always been very grateful for Aldi because, without using coupons, they have the best deals anywhere. Great prices on meat, cereal, cheese, and the selection is getting better all the time. I don't believe they take coupons, though. They do have special buys on name brand items from time to time, but I've never asked about using coupons for these items. Their regular stock is a special store brand made just for them. I've always found the quality to be very good, though. HTH a little!

Aldi's does not take coupons. Do not take checks either.
Tabby..I'm in IA and shop HyVee weekly. They do not dble here, in my area, but they have some great deals that often are better than Aldi's, or is something that Aldi's does not carry. You can also find "wine tags" at HyVee. Those are cpns that hang around the necks of wine bottles that "slip off". Those cpns are good for $$ off meat, chicken, cheese, bread, flowers, etc. I travel 45-50 miles to shop...I'm a rural person too. I do not have stores that dble or triple cpns..but last yr I saved over $3000 with cpns and rebates. You can do this too. If you already shop at Aldi's you are doing great. You may want to concentrate on cheapening up some of the meals you prepare. Say...go meatless one day a week. Or, go without soft drink or juice (have water instead) for 1 meal. Cook from scratch more often. Feel free to email me...and we can share more ideas back and forth. Lisa |
