Moving Ideas Pricing/Deals?
We are moving in the next couple months. I have my usual quote from UHaul for a 26' truck rental.... Just over 1000 dollars. I wanted to comparison shop and didn't know where else to look. I would love to see if there is an alternate or better price. We are moving from Maine to Ontario. It is just less than 800 miles and one-way. Anyone know anything on Container moving? I've seen comercials but don't remember company names.
Thanks guys! |

Upack is a very reputable service where you do all the packing and loading into a trailer and they come pick up the trailer and drive it to your destination where you unload it yourself. They pay the gas and do the driving for you. I used them for my move a few months ago and was quite pleased. When we took the price of a uhaul and added the cost of fuel, it was just about the same price as what Upack cost. And I even was able to find a coupon for upack in one of those moving packs/envelopes that you get at the post office. It was for $50 off or a free ramp rental ($75 value) and I chose the ramp rental 'cause the trailer is quite high off the ground.

I just moved three weeks ago and changed my address at the post office....in about a week I got a moving kit from USPS and they had really good moving 10% coupons from Lowe's, Circuit City, and a few other good deals....best thing is that they also included a test drive offer at Ford for a $50 gift mastercard. Just keep your eyes open for it.

If you belong to AAA make sure you check to see if they offer a discount on the moving trucks and such. I always ask, usually they just give you the discount and dont ask for your membership number. I have gotton countless discounts to AAA. I am a member, need it for the DS car. LOL.... But well worth asking about. HTHs

UPACK is great! We used them for moving from Idaho to Tenn. this summer. Process works much smoother if you are going from / to large cities. We moved from farm to farm, so there was a bit of confusion on who would bring truck to our house. They said that we would have to go to major city to load and unload unless we wanted to pay an additional fee ( they made it sound really expensive). We did not want to have to drive 200 miles one way to load and then another 100 miles to unload, so we had them deliver to our house and pay the extra fee. It only cost about $100 extra. I gladly paid! I could not have rented a truck and paid gas to drive several trips 200 miles, plus the extra hassle of loading/ unloading 2x.
You can save money by moving in the middle of the week and middle of the month, but it was not enough for me to be really worried about it. Happy moving. |
