Happy Birthday Gateway Arch
Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Gateway Arch, America’s tallest man-made monument, on October 28. Turning the clock back to opening day in 1965, the Arch will offer tram rides to the top for $1 for adults and $.50 for children. Employees will be dressed in retro uniforms and the documentary film on the construction of the Arch, “Monument to the Dream,” will be shown free of charge. The National Park Service entrance fee also will be waived for the day. A “Meet the Builders” program will feature workers who helped in the construction of the Arch and an appearance by cartoon favorite “Bob the Builder.” The U.S. Postal Service will offer a special stamp cancellation and commemorative envelope. The grand opening of the exhibit, “The Creative Spirit of Eero Saarinen,” honors the creative genius of the Arch’s architect
