TJ Maxx's computers were hacked into a couple nights ago.
Some info on debit/CC numbers, etc were stolen, and maybe possibly used. Please keep an close eye on your statements. All of the stores listed on the TJ maxx site maybe affected by this. I have overheard from other people on boards that their credit card and debit card won't go through-Your bank may of frozen the account or there is no money left in the card. There are numbers that you can call: T.J. Maxx: 1-800-926-6299 Marshalls: 1-888-627-7425 HomeGoods:1-800-888-0776 Winners: 1-800-646-9466 (English, in Canada) 1-888-405-2335 (French, in Canada) HomeSense: 1-866-466-3707 (English, in Canada) 1-888-405-2335 (French, in Canada) T.K. Maxx: 01923-473561 (in the U.K. and Ireland) A. J. Wright: 1-877-746-7259 Bob's Stores: 1-866-333-BOBS (2627) Be prepared to wait and listen alot. They are totally flooded with calls as of now. http://www.tjx.com/index.html Click on the important information link on the home page for more information. |

I shopped at TJ Maxx in December for the first time in at least 10 years - great timing.

I just canceled my CC. It only takes a week or so to send you a new one. Rather be safe than sorry.

I received a letter from my bank yesterday asking me to immediately stop using my CC and that it will be relaced within 5 business days due to "unauthorized computer access at Marshall's parent company, TJX INC., which could result in fraudulent use of your credit/debit card(s)." I called them and they said if you visited any of the TJX companies from mid-December to mid-January, you should immediately kill the card(s) you used and get replacements. Most CC companies will issue them free of charge as fraud prevention if you tell them you are doing it because of the TJX intrusion.
As a side note, according to a programmer's message board I belong to, the reason this is such a concern is that apparently the hack seems to have initiated from the Russian Republic, and Russian mobsters are know to be heavily involved in a variety of I-net frauds. I really wish I hadn't bought those socks at Marshall's now...

Back in 2005 there were major breaches of security at the upper levels of both Visa and Mastercard. 40 MILLION people's personal data were stolen. The credit card companies told the associated banks to tell their customers about the potential for identity theft, but very few of the banks actually did. As a result many people were understandably very, very upset. And yes a glut of unauthorized activity did start appearing on many peoples' cards. As a result of this several states passed laws REQUIRING the banks to inform their customers. http://money.cnn.com/2005/06/17/news...card/index.htm |

I agree that it sucks but am still quite fond of them. I blame the hackers, not the unfortunate company that GOT hacked. This incident, no matter who's fault, will cost a LOT of money to fix!!
Good luck to those of you getting new cards or HAVING to ask for one. But better safe than sorry is right. |

Just read this on my local news, guess I will be calling my bank in the morning since I made a purchase on Dec. 30th...
Stolen Data Used To Make Fraudulent Purchases (January 24, 2007)--Customer data stolen from TJX Companies by computer hackers have been used to make fraudulent debit card and credit card purchases. The Massachusetts Bankers Association says purchases have been made in Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, and overseas in Hong Kong and Sweden. Nearly 60 banks say credit and debit card companies about compromised cards have contacted them. And the association says the number is likely to grow because it's heard from less than half of the association's 205 banks. TJX, which operates T-J Maxx and Marshalls, reported last week that hackers had broken into a system that handles credit and debit card transactions, as well as checks and merchandise returns. |

I had seen this post earlier and thought I had paid cash when I shopped at TJ Maxx in December, because I didn't see the purchase on the statement. But then I realized I had used a different credit card and checked that statement and the purchase was on it, so I called this morning and had the cc account blocked and they're issuing another card. I hadn't shopped at TJ Maxx in over 10 years -- great timing huh?

Got a call from my bank yesterday and they canceled my debit card right away. 10 days for a new card to arrive -- great!!! You are getting so used to using the card, I'm lost without it now.
I don't want to blame TJ Max, but they do need a better system!!!!
