Think it depends on your area. We usually don't get a really bad heat until Mid August here in NW PA, so they usually run out then and if they are any left they are marked down around September.

Usually late Summer or early Fall. My sis got one really cheap at Target a few years back.

I don't know if you know, but most A/Cs (and fridges) that don't cool as well as they used to can be made to work a lot better by cleaning the back. They work by moving the heat from one place (inside your house) to another (outside your house), but they can't move the heat out if the part that radiates the heat is covered in grime. My DH used to work on these for a living and get $50 for a service call only to find nothing wrong that a hose and some dishsoap wouldn't have fixed for free. Just be careful not to bend the metal. Think soak and spray, not scrub. Good luck!

They sell out at our Wal-Mart before they ever get to markdown. Last year, you couldn't find a window AC unit by mid-July.

I think I will try the soak and spray first.
If that does not work, Then I will get one next month.
Thanks for the suggestions and tips.

My area usually has good sales Fourth of July weekend. Of course, the longer you wait for a sale, the less you have to choose from.

I'd suggest you sign up for e-mail newsletters from the stores where you might buy an AC (Walmart, Sears, BJ's, etc.), and at least you'd know when they had the sales.

my dad finally broke down and bought a new one (the old one was about 20 years old!) and with tax, he paid $95...although there were more cheaper ones at Sears. check it out. he found the one he wanted online and then i went to the store and picked it up for him.

not sure if u tried this but if u try your local Craigslist, people sometimes give away perfectly usable a/c's for free. Or may have them very cheap, sometimes even brand new at really good prices.

Rinsing out the old one didn't help at all, so I went & got a new one. I called several places (with various responses regarding the times when they sell out) before I went to Sears. They had one on sale and in stock, It is the Kenmore brand with a one year warranty (it would of been nice to get an old one but I had a feeling that it would only last one to two summers, plus it wouldn't have a warranty). I paid 89.99 for it. It is quietier than the old one. Thanks for all your help.

Sounds like you got a good deal. And the newer ones are more energy efficient, hopefully you'll notice the difference in your elec. bill (I did when I bought my A/C a few years ago).
