Burlington Coat Factory coupon

Just a heads up if anyone is in the same situation as me.

I have received coupons for 20% off ANY SINGLE ITEM at Burlington Coat Factory between 9/2 and 9/21. I went today to make sure that I can use it for baby items, since I am expecting my second baby. The coupon had no exclusions on it, except for gift cards, layaways and clearance items.
The woman in the store told me I couldn't, it could only be applied to clothing items. I asked why, since the coupon mentioned no limits or anything. She said that's just the way it is.

I was really upset because 20% off a nice travel system for the baby would save us close to $50. I went home and wrote a nasty email to corporate, explaining what happened. I haven't heard anything back from them, but if they don't do anything for me I will take my business to Babies'R'Us.

While I didn't get the coupon - I would have loved to b/c I am also expecting - it does not seem fair. If it is in black and white that states it can only be used on clothing then that is different. Sometimes people like to make up their own rules.

Hope this gets resolved.

Most people respond better to courteous e-mails.

I had a somewhat similar situation yesterday at a pet store. I had two $5 coupons for Science Diet food. Each coupon said it was good on a bag of at least 3.5 lbs, and was limited to one per purchase. I bought 2 bags, and expected to use both coupons. Both the cashier & the store manager insisted that I was allowed to use only one coupon no matter how many bags I bought. I tried to talk to them about the difference between one per purchase & one per customer, but got nowhere. They eventually rang it up as 2 separate orders, making quite a fuss over the extra work it caused them (holding up the line and making numerous errors in giving me proper credit for the coupons as well as counting out the change accurately).

I e-mailed the store's headquarters yesterday to request clarification of their coupon policy, and got a very nice response first thing this morning that I was correct, that they would be educating their sales staff, and thanking me for bringing it to their attention.

Hopefully this is a win-win situation - I'm satisfied that I was "heard", headquarters should be happy that they've satisfied a customer & nipped a problem in the bud, and the store employees should be glad that they now know the correct policy.

Yes, I know about email courtesy, I used to be one of the people sending out the responses That's how I can tell that the response I got was generic. It mentioned the "inconvenience" I had experienced at their store and how the customer service would improve after the store manager had been talked to.
Nowhere in the email was there anything about the issue I had (coupon) or specific to the store.
I also received a phone call, and the person I talked to:
1. didn't introduce himself
2. was kind of rude, basically just saying "that's just the way it is"
3. did not even offer an apology or any kind of compensation

He could at least have offered to send me a coupon that IS valid for the purchase I am looking to make.

Luckily I found the same travel system that I'm looking for on Amazon at a good price. That's probably where I'll end up buying it. 10% off at Baby Depot won't be enough to beat that price. Thanks for the coupons though. They sure will come in handy

It must be an issue with certain stores. While I was pregnant and even know that I'm not.I've used coupons on all sorts of things.I can tell you it normally wasn't on clothing though.I would've asked to speak to the manager directly.Normally if a customer is a "problem" for lack of better terms sometimes they give in and give the discount anyways.I didn't have a problem though at our store.
