What are these rotary cutters? How easy are they to use? Do you need to put something down to keep you from cutting through everything underneath???

The pain in my arm is so bad I can't hold the scissors and I have a pile of inserts to snip!

Any other suggestions???

Thanks!

A rotary cutter is like a pizza cutter but it is very sharp and has a saftey mechanisim on the top so you are less likely to cut yourself. Some people find them easier to use than others . . .

I would suggest putting something under the coupons because it can leave a mark on the surface you are using. My good friend uses the cutter with a special board that reseals itself when it is marked or cut . . . It wasn't cheap but it wasn't super expensive as I remember it and she loves doing it this way. She is able to put several inserts down at once and cut through all of them . . .

Good luck.

I was wondering that, too!

Where did she get the board at, Maddy? A craft store? An office supply store?

I need to find something better than the scissors. I get between 10 - 15 sets of inserts each week. It takes me about 3 days to get them all cut out.

I don't want to use an exacto knife, even though I have one, because I am just too too nervous I will cut myself or one of the kids will somehow get hurt. They make me paranoid. LOL

I use a rotary cutter in my sewing business all the time. It can also be used for paper (coupons). Joanne fabrics has the cutters and boards together. Wait until you get their 50% off anything in the store coupon in their flyer and you can get both for under $5.( if you buy the small boards which is all a coupon cutter would need, sewers need bigger boards and the are expensive)
If you do not have the self mending board you will wreck the blade and the surface. Once a blade is used on paper it is not sharp enough for fabric. I can cut 15 pieces of fabric at once with no problem with mine.

Some good info here... and thats the one WM carries for about $9 (no Joanns near here) and the board liner things are sold right with them for a few bucks... I have to go tomorrow and just might take the plunge... coordination is not one of my finer points but its looks to be less risky than other sharp things!

Just one little tip for anyone thinking of getting one of these, especially if you have kids around... try to get in the habit of putting the safety back up every time you set it down. You will not believe how sharp they are and they look like they are so fun to kids... they really could do some damage in the wrong hands.

Ooooooh!! Stacy! Thanks for the linky!

That's not what I had pictured in my furry little head - it looks NEAT! I just happen to have a 50% off coupon for Rag Shop on Saturday so I guess I'll be wandering over there to see if they carry them- I would think they would... I'll just have to snag another circular on the way out and then go back in for the board!

I'm so glad I asked!

Thanks everyone for the info and comments!

I believe she got it at Michaels. Its a special cutting board that even though it looks like it has been cut a million time it seals itself. I know my friend didn't pay a lot for it and probably used a Michaels coupon because shes even more frugal than I am . . .

She is going through a rough time right now with her family but I will try to ask her for more information when I get home this weekend . . .
