Does anyone know if the kits are free?? The info at the link doesn't say. This if for kids ages 6-12. This would be awesome if it's totally free. It would still be good even if you paid for the kit. I was just curious if anyone knew.

Does anyone know if all the projects are available every Saturday or only 1 or 2? Does it cost anything? Do the kids bring their own tools?

Most of the HDs only have one project kit available per project day. They provide all of the tools. Fasteners come with the kit. All projects are free. I take both of my children to these events. Their ages are 1-year and 3 years. They have never told us we can't do it. Take your kids and have fun. They do this the first Saturday of every month.

I called the Home Depot near us and the woman I spoke to said that they'll be making some sort of box for Father's Day. It costs nothing, they provide the expertise, tools and supplies. I asked her about the age thing as well and she said it didn't really matter as long as a parent is with to help a little one. Just give your local HD a call for details.

They also do this at Lowe's. It's the first Saturday of every month. My dd has made bird houses, a tool box, plant stand, etc. They send her an invitation every month to remind us. When you first go, the child gets an apron, hammer, goggles, etc. It is totally free. She gets excited about it every month. Usually her and her dad go but I took her last month with friend and they were very nice to all the kids. They won't allow toddlers at this in our area though. It makes it hard for the other kids and the idea is that they have to have the motor skills to do this themselves. I completely understand. My dd is nine and I think the kids can start at 5 or 6.

Yep, dh takes our 4 year old to these at Home Depot occasionally, they are like one Saturday a month, sometimes every other month.
Absolutely free, all materials included, just show up! Matt got a Home Depot apron like the workers wear, safety goggles, stickers and a pin. They made a periscope last time. Now, dh had to do alot of the work, but very easy. Basically hammer a few nails in and go. They just handed out the kits and had a certain area to work in, you could get the kit and take it home too if you wanted to. Very nice daddy son outing. |

Can't stress this enough:
CALL YOUR HOME DEPOT AHEAD!!! They all have different hours that they do this and even different days! We have 4 Home Depots around where we live and one does it every 1st and 2nd Saturday from 10-11 am and another does it from 10-12pm but only on the second Sat., etc. Also, go online to get LOWE's date at your store. Ours is every SECOND Saturday. My kids love BOTH stores and some Saturdays we hit both :D I will have to say though, that LOWE's beats the socks off of Home Depot as far as website info. The kid clinic info online for Lowe's is zipcode-specific so you always get the right date/time info. They also tell you exactly what the project is. Home Depot is hit-or-miss after you've been going for awhile - meaning sometimes we get there and we already did that particular project. The fabric kid-sized aprons are awesome, and they differ too depending on the sponser. Once they had disney ones that are cute (Home Depot). Lowe's always seems glad when you remember to bring your goggles and apron from the previous activity. The kids get patches and certificates (Lowe's) or buttons (HD) for completing each project. We highly recommend it. |
